About |o-bot|

|o-bot| is a online gaming clan aimed toward having fun. We play to win, but we play to have fun first and foremost.

We're a Tribes and CounterStrike clan, but if you just wanna be socialable and hang out that's all cool. There's plenty of beer and pretzels to go round. :)

You can normally find us on the paradise.net.nz Tribes server, and on the various NZ Counter Strike servers. A lot of us hang out over at www.faultline.gen.nz and NZGames.com. And of course there is The Hub in Wellington every month where we LAN to our hearts content (or until they kick us out ;P)

|o-bot| Knights and Tactical Elite

In addition to our regular kick ass beerz and pretzelz open clan, we've got specialist competitive teams in both Tribes1,Tribes2, Counter Strike and Day of Defeat. The Knights team is our Tribes team, and the Tactical Elite team is our Counter Strike team. Entry to both teams is restricted to regular |o-bot| members who pass a tryout with the team leaders to make sure they are at the required level.

Although the teams are by tryout, there isn't any sort of seniority or higher rank associated with being in these teams over regular membership. They are there for people who want to be part of the open clan, but still want to play at a higher level. If you just wanna hang out and stuff around on the servers - that's cool too.

Running the clan

Running the clan is the Pretzel Lords Council they are the ones that decide on the big issues involved with running the clan. From there is the leader of the clan - |o-bot|Phantom, the 2nd in charge - |o-bot|MadLep (the one who does most of the day to day running of |o-bot|).

Joining |o-bot|

We'd love to have you. We really would. First we gotta make sure you're right for us, and we're right for you.

Previously, we've had an open joining policy. That was all fine and well for a while, but we've gotten pretty big now. We're well over 60 players. When you get that many people without really knowing a lot about them, then you get some problems. So we've decided to get a bit more picky about who we let in.

We haven't changed our focus at all. We're still the beer guzzling, voice spamming, pretzel lovin |o-bots| we've always been. New recruits are still based on personality ahead of skill. We've just decided to make sure we know new folks a bit better before they become part of that glorious heritage.

So. If you wanna join, here is the way that it works:

First up, if you are under 18, and you don't know a few of the members personally (in real life), there is very little chance we will let you in. We've got some great members that are under 18. Mostly we've known them pretty well, and made sure they would be good in the clan. We've been burnt a few times with unknown younger folks coming into the clan and let us down. So we generally don't do it.

Secondly you need to live in New Zealand. We mainly have a Wellington focus cause we're quite social in real life, and most of our members live in Welly, but we're pretty easy with that - however, you do have to live in NZ. It's just the way we work it (yes, that does mean we don't take Aussies).

So, if you think you're still ok, do the following:

  1. Go to the |o-bot| forum, and post a message in the Join |o-bot| forum describing a bit about yourself. The more you write the better. We need to know a bit about you before we'll think about letting you in. 3 lines doesn't cut it sorry.
  2. Next, you'll need to get an existing |o-bot| to nominate you for membership. If you know an |o-bot| in person, get them to put you forward for nomination, otherwise you'll have to make an effort to get to know one to talk them into doing it for you.
  3. The |o-bot| member that is backing your application then makes a post in the private Potential new member discussion forum (no, you can't look at it). All members have a chance to vote on it, and argue in support or against it. If you have been a dumb ass online, it's quite likely that someone will bring it up - if they do, then you're application pretty much dies here. If you have been playing nice, and people are in support of you joining, then it goes onto the next step.
  4. |o-bot|Fenir is our Recruitment Officer. He'll get in contact with you and have a chat to you to make sure that you are the right stuff to get into the clan. Fenir takes care of recruit on behalf of the Pretzel Lord Council. He has the final say on whether you get in or not. He can give a yes or no for whatever reason he likes.
  5. If Fenir gives the thumbs up, then you're in. Welcome to the clan
